Job Summary

Installs, calibrates, repairs, and inspects medical equipment and solves moderately complex problems in the field.

Site: The General Hospital Corporation

Responsibilities include performing repairs up to and including diagnosis and repair of difficult technical problems, participating in evaluations and installations of equipment, and providing information to develop procedures.

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect newly acquired medical devices for safety and function, attach control numbers and labels, and update inventory records.
  2. Conduct performance assurance and electrical safety testing; perform preventive maintenance and assist in developing testing protocols.
  3. Respond to equipment problems, troubleshoot, and determine whether to remove or replace malfunctioning devices.
  4. Perform complex repairs using diagnostic software or test instrumentation at the component level.
  5. Participate in equipment evaluations, installations, and upgrades, including software updates.
  6. Assess operation of medical devices during rounds, identify trends, and work with the team to resolve recurring issues.
  7. Instruct clinical and technical staff on operation, safe use, and maintenance of medical equipment.
  8. Document inspections, repairs, and training activities accurately in a database, and maintain inventory records.
  9. Complete training on medical device maintenance and suggest procedural improvements.
  10. Identify safety and quality issues, suggest solutions, and contribute to departmental improvements.
  11. Assist in investigations of clinical incidents involving medical equipment under supervision.
  12. Perform on-call repairs and assistance as scheduled.
  13. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent experience.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Competence in repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic medical devices.
  • Strong communication skills for working with team members and clients.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting using specialized tools and software.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical safety principles.
