Job summary

Bucknell University is seeking a part-time Research Assistant in the Biomedical Engineering Lab to support experiments, protocol development, and data collection. The role involves lab maintenance, ordering with vendors, and advising students on project design, with emphasis on safety and compliance.

Schedule is 20 hours per week, year-round, donor funded for two years with potential renewal. Reporting to the Biomedical Engineering Department Chair, the assistant will work with faculty,

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree.
  • No visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship.
  • Position is non-exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the execution of research experiments and projects by performing routine technical procedures, preparing necessary materials, and following established protocols to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Maintain research spaces through procurement of materials and monitoring lab inventory.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all research activities, including data entry and preliminary results, ensuring documentation complies with institutional and project‑specific standards.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as they arise.
  • Coordinate with vendors and/or campus colleagues to arrange service or repair as needed.
  • Keep laboratories stocked with supplies such as gloves, wipes, safety glasses, lab coats, safety shields, and other PPE.
  • Ensure equipment and instruments are available, operational, and properly positioned for use, and that utensils, glassware, and machines remain available.
  • Additional non‑essential tasks may be assigned as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related field
Master’s degree
