  • Other work to support indexing quality assurance, such as constructing PubMed searches to identify citations with missing or incorrect MeSH publication types or other terms; reviewing lists of citations identified as potentially requiring specific indexing corrections; submitting lists of affected PMIDs (PubMed unique identifiers) as batch correction requests; and making manual corrections in the PMDM system
Required Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor’s or higher education in biology, biomedical science, or a related field.

    • Familiarity with biomedical terminology
    • Knowledge of controlled vocabularies (preferably MeSH)
    • Knowledge of the principles of subject indexing (preferably using MeSH)
  • Ability to obtain public trust clearance
Desired Skills/Experience
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP), text mining, or automated text classification/indexing.
  • Knowledge of information retrieval, search analytics, and search-user behavior.
  • Experience evaluating algorithms using measures such as precision, recall, F1 score, and related performance metrics.
  • Experience working with controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, thesauri, or ontologies.
  • Familiarity with biomedical or bibliographic data, particularly MEDLINE, PubMed, and MeSH.
  • Experience using SQL, relational databases, version control (e.g., Git), and reproducible analytical workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of biomedical databases (especially PubMed/MEDLINE) and database search skills, including:
    • Familiarity with typical practices in biomedical publishing, types of scientific publications, components of citations, and basic bibliographic data
    • Proficiency in constructing complex queries (preferably in PubMed/MEDLINE) using advanced search features, including Boolean operators, search fields, and search filters
