Job summary

Computercraft seeks a Cataloging Librarian to support the National Library of Medicine at NIH in Bethesda, MD. The role entails on-site, full-time cataloging of biomedical literature, including descriptive cataloging, subject analysis with MeSH, and classification using NLM and LC systems.

You will manage authority records, participate in NACO, and ensure records meet national and international standards while coordinating with a team of professionals in a dynamic biomedical library setting.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of library and cataloging experience with RDA and MARC21
• Familiarity with controlled vocabularies (LCSH, MeSH, LC Classification, NLM Classification)
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
• Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
• Experience cataloging fragile materials or in a special collections environment
• Experience cataloging serials
• Knowledge of non-English languages (e.g., Latin, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian)
• Experience creating cataloging records per BSR/CSR and using ALMA or OCLC Connexion

Responsibilities

• Performs descriptive cataloging following RDA and BSR/CSR as applicable
• Prepare authority records for NACO contribution
• Select MeSH terms for subjects
• Assign NLM Classification and related LC notation
• Update cataloging records and holdings
• Follow NLM policies and standards
