Job summary

Banner Health Biomed Technician IV provides functional expertise on complex biomedical devices, conducts inventory assessments, and makes equipment maintenance recommendations. You will review preventive maintenance standards and train staff on specialty equipment, with travel across multiple sites as needed.

In this fast-paced environment you’ll document all service activities, manage parts inventories, and coordinate with vendors and clinical teams to restore clinical capability quickly.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in electronics or related field required; seven years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for company auto insurance.
  • Strong ability to read schematics and understand analog/digital circuits; knowledge of electrical fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, inspect, troubleshoot, and calibrate biomedical equipment per standards.
  • Provide SME guidance and training on specialty equipment.
  • Assist in evaluation and selection of new equipment and purchase specs.
  • Maintain customer communications and ensure rapid restoration of clinical capability.
  • Coordinate service with vendors and other technicians.
  • Use diagnostic software and document all work accurately.
  • Manage equipment maintenance records across multiple sites.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing functional expertise on complex and/or specialized biomedical devices. Executes professional‑level inventory assessments/audits and makes recommendations for equipment purchases. Reviews preventative maintenance standards for improvements and makes recommendations for more effective scheduled maintenance activities. Serves as a resource and aids staff in areas concerning Technology Management, including providing training and instruction to others on specialty equipment. Travel across multiple sites may be required.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  1. Repairs, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and calibrates equipment in all assigned areas in compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s recommendations. Implements preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspections. Oversees the work of external contractors/vendors engaged in providing services.
  2. Serves as a subject‑matter expert on applicable specialty equipment, including providing training and instruction to others on equipment.
  3. Assists in the evaluation and selection of new equipment, accessories and supplies. Participates in developing detailed purchase specifications as requested.
  4. Provides customer relations and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible. Maintains communication with customers regarding the status of equipment repairs. Proactively solves technology issues when appropriate. Coordinates/schedules service (self, vendor and, when appropriate, other technicians) via management of customer expectations. Performs device investigations related to regulations and/or incident reporting.
  5. Utilizes applicable automated hardware and software applications and diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.
  6. Documents all work performed, maintains parts, supplies, tools, test equipment and technical literature by completing service reports and supplemental productivity documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains an accurate and current parts inventory. Assists manager in maintaining a comprehensive library of technical literature.
  7. This position has responsibilities for equipment maintenance records on a high volume of equipment items in multiple internal facilities and external client facilities. Customers are internal and external and may include vendors, physicians, nurses, administrators and other hospital staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of electronics as normally obtained through the completion of an Associate’s degree in electronics or related field or equivalent training. Must have seven years of progressively responsible work experience with applicable specialty equipment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Must be proficient at reading and analyzing schematic diagrams, including analog and digital circuits and possess a working knowledge of electrical and electronic fundamentals, including DC and AC circuits, semiconductor theory, digital circuit theory and microprocessor theory. Must also be proficient in Windows PC and network operating systems, PC repair, and have fundamental knowledge in Local Area Network configuration and troubleshooting. Must be knowledgeable in applicable accreditation and regulatory standards for the Environment of Care. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
