Join us as a Biomaterials R&D Engineer at Johnson & Johnson MedTech

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a talented Biomaterials R&D Engineer to join our team in West Chester, PA. This role supports the Biomaterials Research and Development Group within DePuy Synthes, focusing on developing products based on advanced biomaterials such as ceramic bone void fillers, bioabsorbable polymer implants, and cell-based therapies.

Our responsibilities include early-stage evaluation of new materials technologies, device design and development, manufacturing process development, and supporting preclinical testing and regulatory submissions. The successful candidate will collaborate with various internal divisions and external surgeons to innovate and develop new product concepts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and evaluate biomaterials, including raw material and supplier selection.
  • Investigate synthetic, animal-derived, or human-derived materials.
  • Apply knowledge of ceramic, polymer chemistry, and composite design.
  • Conduct material formulation, analytical characterization, mechanical and chemical testing following industry standards.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, contribute to thought leadership, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Design and execute experiments, maintain technical documentation, and work in a Biosafety Level 2 lab.
  • Lead small projects and support product development through all phases from concept to post-market surveillance.
Qualifications
  • BSc in Ceramic Science & Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in medical device or biomechanical systems design and development.
  • Knowledge of regulatory design controls and industry standards (ISO, ASTM, USP).
  • Strong project management, communication, and laboratory skills.
