Job summary

Valle de Oro NWR near Albuquerque, NM seeks a Visitor Services/Biological Science Technician IP to support both visitor services and biology programs. The role blends front desk duties, interpretation, and field observations to help manage wildlife habitat and educational outreach.

The AmeriCorps position offers hands-on program development, social media outreach, and community engagement with opportunities for professional growth and a Segal Education Award plus weekly living allowance.

Qualifications

  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident
  • At least 21 years of age, and no older than 30 years of age
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Participate in occasional offsite in person/virtual meetings, trainings, and presentations

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental education and interpretation programming, including events and reports
  • Coordinate with the Pueblo of Isleta Hiking Club
  • Post and coordinate Refuge social media pages and campaigns
  • Coordinate the Valle de Oro NWR Photo Contest
  • Assist with volunteer coordination
  • Staff the Visitor Center front desk and provide visitor information
  • Lead drive-arounds to check trails and amenities for safety
  • Provide information on Refuge programs, trails, and permits
  • Research sources for management planning and compile digests
  • Support habitat restoration and landscape maintenance activities
  • Assist with building the Refuge’s Visitor Services Program
