Job summary

Takasago is seeking a Biology Scientist (level II) in Rockleigh, NJ to advance research on the biological activity of essential oils, fragrance and flavor molecules. The role involves working with standard microbial cultures and following safety procedures.

The incumbent will plan and perform experiments, analyze data, prepare reports and support both research and commercial objectives, including collaboration with analytical, chemistry, psychophysics and neuroscience teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years direct experience in flavor/fragrance industry or a Master's in Biochemistry or Microbiology with lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform experiments and method development in flavors/fragrances research using available biological tools.
• Collect and analyze data, prepare buffers, media, formulations, and work with microorganisms and enzymes.
• Prepare project reports and scientific presentations; interact with analytics, chemistry, psychophysics, and neuroscience teams.
• Provide full laboratory support for Takasago’s commercial, creative and marketing objectives.
• Must be willing to work with non-pathogenic molds and bacteria.

We currently have an opportunity for a Biology Scientist (level II) position located in Rockleigh, NJ. The incumbent will perform research on the biological activity of essential oils, fragrance and flavor molecules. The role involves working with standard bacterial and fungal cultures used in microbiological laboratory testing, including Aspergillus brasiliensis, while following established laboratory safety procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Responsible for planning and performing experiments as well as method development in the study and understanding of flavors and fragrances using the tools available in biological research.
• Collects and analyzes data, prepares buffers, media, household product formulations, performs experiments using microorganisms and enzymes, and general support for the biology research group.
• Prepares project reports, scientific presentations and interacts with other areas of research (analytical, chemistry, psychophysics, neuroscience).
• Duties will also include full laboratory support for Takasago’s commercial, creative and marketing objectives.
• Must be willing to work with non-pathogenic molds and bacteria.

Educational Qualifications:

Bachelors and two+ years direct experience in flavor or fragrance industry or Masters in Biochemistry or Microbiology with lab experience (preferably in the biological sciences).

Experience:

A minimum of two years hands-on laboratory experience preferably in microbiology, biochemistry, psychophysics, or cosmetic or food science. Experience working in fragrance or flavor labs will be preferred. Candidates should be comfortable working with microbial cultures as part of routine laboratory activities.

The equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Competencies:

Experience working with microorganisms and/or enzymes is strongly preferred. Experience working in either fragrance or flavor labs is preferred. External scientific and other industry specific meetings. In-house technique training or outside instrumentation, technique, and scientific knowledge training courses as needed. Expected to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Other essential competencies include keen attention to details, excellent communication and collaboration skills.
