Job summary

North Park University in Chicago seeks a Lab Manager for Biology to oversee teaching labs, prepare specimens, set up equipment, and manage lab safety and cleanliness. This is a full-time, 12-month position supporting faculty and students in biology laboratories.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Biology and hands-on lab experience; a Master’s in Biology is preferred. The university offers comprehensive benefits and a faith-centered, intercultural campus community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related discipline.
• Master’s Degree in Biology or a related discipline (preferred).
• Laboratory Experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee biology laboratory preparations, equipment setup and lab cleanup for all biology courses.
• Oversee departmental student lab assistants.
• Collaborate with the lab safety officer to ensure safe lab operations.
• Oversee biology lab equipment and instrumentation; coordinate preventative maintenance.
• Removal of all biological and chemical waste materials including animal cage bedding and human cadaver waste.
• Aids in care and removal of all live and preserved animals and plants.
• Support faculty in the teaching of laboratories including setup and take down of lab experiments.
• Coordinates the ordering of supplies to support teaching and research in the department.
• Attends and reports at biology department meetings regarding labs and safety.
• Works with Physical Plant to ensure Biology labs are in good working condition.
• Drive to obtain items from local vendors.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the department chair.
