UW–Madison College of Letters & Science, Department of Biology, seeks a Department Administrator II to partner with the chair and lead administrative, financial, and human resources functions for a dynamic research and teaching unit. The role requires independent initiative, strong problem-solving, and collaboration across college teams.

The position is onsite with hybrid scheduling options; expect regular onsite presence and ongoing onboarding to align with department needs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional administrative experience with progressive responsibility.
• Experience with financial data and budget generation.
• At least 2 years of supervision experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Experience collaborating with diverse teams.
• Ability to apply sound judgment on policies and procedures.

Responsabilités

• Lead strategic and short-term planning with data for decision-making.
• Manage department programs, staff, and operations for efficiency.
• Oversee basic and translational research programs including staffing and facilities.
• Develop and administer budgets and ensure compliance with rules.
• Lead faculty recruitment, evaluation, and promotion processes.
• Oversee communications, marketing, and donor engagement.
• Manage department space, IT systems, and regional network development.
• Support onboarding and professional development of staff.
• Supervise at least 2.0 FTE employees.
