Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries seeks a biologist supervisor at the Fisheries Research Laboratory on Grand Isle. You will oversee biologist staff, develop lab and field schedules, and coordinate day-to-day operations at a semi-remote field station with staff dormitory access during the work week.

Responsibilities include grant management, generating technical reports, maintaining equipment, and liaising with field staff across multi-day sampling efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science.
• Non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience.
• Master's with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience.

Responsibilities

• Creates weekly laboratory and field sampling schedules for biologist staff.
• Coordinates with the Biologist Manager to prioritize and complete monitoring of state-managed resources and regional fisheries assessment programs.
• Manages large-scale research and monitoring projects.
• Summarizes data and generates/reviews figures, analyses, and text for technical reports.
• Organizes and maintains vehicles, vessels, and equipment.
• Maintains contact with field staff during multi-day sampling efforts, weekends, and occasional holidays.
• Participates in regional working groups as needed.
• Represents LDWF with professionalism in all public events and forums.
