Job summary

Cape Fox Facilities Services is seeking a Biologist to support the Laboratory of Bacteriology (LB) in the DIR - RML, Hamilton, MT. The position involves working in ABSL-3 environments with high-containment pathogens and requires meticulous data recording and collaboration with NIH researchers.

The successful candidate will perform sterile cell culture, bacteriological techniques, and maintain logs and biosafety documentation while contributing to project goals and reagent management.

Responsibilities

  • Support collaborative research in BSL-3 facilities with priority pathogens.
  • Perform complex experimental procedures including sterile cell culture, passaging, and cryopreservation.
  • Maintain lab records, biospecimen repositories, logs, and BSL-3 training documentation.
  • Conduct research in ABSL-3 labs and obtain Biosurety clearance as required.
  • Produce laboratory reagents and keep protocols up-to-date for production.
  • Carry out standard bacteriological techniques including stock preparation and characterization.
  • Record experiments, analyze data, and present results to NIH staff or for publication.
  • Assist with ordering reagents, equipment, quotes, and inventory management.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by adhering to safety regulations.
  • Work in a team with strong written and oral communication.
  • Assist in vitro and in vivo research (e.g., rodents) in ABSL-3 environments.

Overview

Cape Fox Facilities Services is seeking a Biologist to support the overall functions of the Laboratory of Bacteriology (LB), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) - RML, Hamilton, MT.

The total hourly pay for this exempt position is 37.60 for up to 40 hours per week. This rate represents the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. In addition, for eligible positions we offer a variety of benefits including specified holidays, paid leave, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, as well as 401K with company match. This job will be posted until filled or withdrawn.

Responsibilities
  • Support highly collaborative research in high-containment BSL-3 facilities including: Burkholderia pseudomallei, Coxiella burnetii, and other priority pathogens.
  • Perform a wide variety of complex experimental procedures involving sterile cell culture techniques such as passaging, cryopreservation, and maintenance of eukaryotic primary and established cell lines.
  • Maintain general lab upkeep, including updating biospecimen repository databases for clinical specimens or lab-derived samples; maintain sample transfer and removal logs; maintain records for BSL-3 for lab users.
  • Perform lab research work in ABSL/BSL-3 laboratories, and complete necessary training and testing for Biosurety clearance.
  • Keep up-to-date and follow protocols in the production of laboratory reagents.
  • Perform standard bacteriological techniques that include bacterial stock preparation, scale-up, and characterization.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, analyze data, and present oral or written results to others at NIH or for publication.
  • Assist with ordering scientific reagents and equipment, including obtaining price quotes, tracking orders, inventory of materials, and restocking the laboratory.
  • Maintain a safe workplace: adhere to safety and occupational health rules and regulations.
  • Work as part of a team with well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Assist and support in vitro and in vivo research (e.g., rodents) and operations with the ability to work in a ABSL-3.
