Overview
We are looking for a Biologics Procurement Specialist who manages the Reagent Donor Program, including developing donor schedules to meet production needs and communicating with donors and collection facilities to ensure timely blood collection. The specialist is responsible for scheduling donors to meet Werfen's survey needs, managing donor samples sent for external testing, and assisting internal customers with red cell requests. Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop annual and ad hoc schedules for red cell donors to ensure blood supply aligns with schedule requirements and commitments.
- Place new donors on schedules that meet production needs.
- Monitor the shipping of donor units in compliance with supply agreements with donor centers.
- Assist with logging in of red cells and platelets used for manufacturing.
- Perform second verification of blood units log-in entries in the BDMS system to ensure accurate data entry before further processing.
- Review product specifications and release products for manufacturing.
- Participate in process improvements.
- Serve as backup to Biologics Sourcing Specialist IIa, coordinating blood collection for other departments and experimental protocols, editing answer packets and case studies for in-house educational products, and assisting with donor unit allocation in BDMS.
- Prepare samples for external testing or transfer to other Immucor sites.
- Assist with revising department documents.
- Support supervisor in ensuring procurement activities adhere to procedures and are completed timely.
- Assist with investigations into complaints and deviations, supporting process improvement or R&D projects.
- Ensure department records are legible, properly stored, and maintained according to protocols and timeframes.
- Follow OSHA regulations related to chemical hazards and blood-borne pathogens.
- Understand FDA and ISO standards applicable to the department and the consequences of nonconformance.
- Meet established competency evaluation levels.
- Understand the source, composition, and characteristics of products and associated hazards.
- Collaborate effectively with coworkers and supervisors, taking direction well.
- Maintain good morale and motivation within the department.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry required.
- Blood banking experience preferred.
- Availability to work irregular hours, including weekends and overtime, as needed.
- Experience with extended red cell antigens and their characteristics.
- Proficiency in Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Experience providing customer service support.
