Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Scientist for Biologics Process Research & Development to design and develop robust upstream and downstream bioprocesses. You will work within a collaborative team, integrating innovative science with manufacturing needs to advance the biologics pipeline.

You will contribute to process development, technology transfer, and potentially biophysical and computational modeling, in a dynamic, global biopharma setting.

Qualifications

• BS with 2+ years of relevant experience or MS degree in Chemical/Biochemical/Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related fields.
• Experience with molecular biology, protein expression, mammalian cell culture, protein purification, biochemical engineering, or analytical technologies.
• Ability to execute experiments independently and present data clearly.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and protein biophysics; strong communication of technical results.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative and disruptive technologies for next-generation biologics manufacturing processes.
• Characterize robust clinical processes delivering multi-kilogram quantities of therapeutics.
• Design and conduct experiments related to cell-line development, upstream or downstream bioprocessing.
• Integrate unit operations with process control and monitoring platforms.
• Collaborate across BPR&D and analytics to advance biologics pipeline.
• Carry out lab- and pilot-scale studies to support scale-up and tech transfer.
• Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
