The University of Florida’s Diabetes Institute (UFDI) is seeking a candidate to provide critical support for tissue sample processing and subsequent data generation to support several type 1 diabetes research efforts. The applicant will use expertise with molecular and single cell biology to carry out research in human tissue samples and support ongoing studies in the laboratory in the areas of type 1 diabetes genetics, human immune development, and adaptive immunity. Specific duties include oversight of spatial transcriptomics operations, processing and preparation of human tissue samples for performance of assays, and management of sample processing workflows for next generation sequencing, flow cytometry, and/or image data collected via immunofluorescence.
Duties include:
Direct, manage, and execute research studies for the UF Diabetes Institute Spatial transcriptomics and multi-omics research group. This includes the direct supervision of other scientists, post-docs, grad students, and undergrads on all facets of these studies. Primary directives include developing new methods for spatial biology research in type 1 diabetes, monitoring and operating specialized multi-omic imaging platform equipment, and creating and executing computational approaches for data analysis and visualization.
Coordinate scientific services in relation to spatial transcriptomics, scRNAseq, and high-parameter imaging platforms for the entire UFDI and collaborating members of the College of Medicine. This includes the development and oversight of all laboratory SOPs and ensuring proper processing of cell and tissue samples for the multi-omics core of the UFDI.
Lead data manager and data analysis pipeline developer for the UFDI multi-omics core. Responsible for managing UF Hipergator resources and for developing the UFDI codebook in relation to all multi-omics activities and appropriately sharing these resources on GitHub or other applicable platforms.
Manuscript development and writing. Generate timely reports for all study activities to the PI and UFDI leadership, including progress reports for the NIH, FDOH, and other funding authorities. Participate in grant writing for new funding opportunities, present research findings at institutional, governmental, and international scientific meetings, and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
Maintain accurate laboratory records. Perform and supervise lab maintenance and upkeep to abide by EH&S and other regulatory requirements in the handling of chemical and biohazardous materials.
