WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and study skills.
• Observe and evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction aligned with course outlines and learning outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and curriculum; prepare and submit related reports.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials in collaboration with faculty.
• Participate in curriculum and program development; update syllabi and revise content as necessary.
• Attend and participate on committees and meetings; may participate in articulation and matriculation activities.
• Provide direction to others as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications for the discipline (as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors):

• Master’s degree in a biological science, or
• Bachelor’s degree in a biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or
• Appropriate California Community College Credential or equivalent.

POSITION TERM

Temporary full‑time, non‑tenure‑track position at Ventura College starting during the Fall 2026 semester and ending in the Spring 2027 semester.

LOCATION

Ventura College, located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, on a 112‑acre campus.

PAY PHILOSOPHY

Annual salary is based on a ten‑month contract and is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. Maximum advanced salary placement credit for prior experience is 7 steps in column I on the full‑time academic salary schedule. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for the instructor and eligible dependents.
