Role Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Bioinformatics Engineer (Contractor) with a foundational understanding of bioinformatics principles and a keen interest in pipeline development. This role will involve contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable bioinformatics pipelines, assisting in processing and curating 'omics data to support ***'s Precision Health Platform and initiatives like Project Baseline, the All of Us Research Program, and *** Sightline for wastewater monitoring. The contractor will work under guidance, learning and growing within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for processing genomic and 'omics data.
Contribute to the development and management of computational workflows (e.g., WDL/Cromwell, Nextflow, or Snakemake).
Apply basic understanding of Docker to containerize bioinformatics tools for reproducible environments.
Support pipeline deployment and management on cloud computing platforms, primarily Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, or a closely related quantitative discipline, with 1-3 years of relevant hands-on experience (including academic projects or internships).
Strong programming skills in Python, R, and Bash scripting;
Experience working with or building data pipelines (bonus if familiar with tools like Nextflow, Snakemake, or WDL/Cromwell) with docker and cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure);
Foundational understanding of genomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, and other omics data types.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with concepts in machine learning and AI as applied to biological data.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
