Coriell Institute for Medical Research is currently seeking a Biobanking Technician I to join its Biobanking Logistics Team. THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITION NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS.

The Biobanking Logistics department is responsible for supporting and assisting all daily operations in the Kitting, Shipping, Central Sterilization, and Cryogenic areas. The department plays a key role in many logistical aspects of Coriell’s Biobanking operations, including the preservation and distribution of biomaterials while adhering to internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory agency guidelines.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Biobanking Logistics & Customer Service, the Biobanking Technician I will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to:

  • Becoming proficient in using Coriell’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Becoming proficient in using Coriell’s Biobanking Logistics Inventory Tracking System (BLITS)
  • Completing on-line certifications for the department of transportation and biohazardous waste
  • Assisting with internal and external order fulfillment, requests or shipments
  • Assisting in filling liquid nitrogen tanks
  • Assisting in the storage and retrieval of biospecimens from tanks and freezers
  • Delivering daily work orders to the Production & Research Laboratories
  • Participating and assisting with equipment preventative maintenance schedules
  • Participating in on-call rotations for equipment monitoring (valid driver’s license required)
  • Maintaining a well-organized work environment
  • Assisting with the tactical operations of all areas of the Biobanking Logistics

Qualifications:

The ideal person in this role has an undergraduate degree or 1-2 years of experience working within a logistical and/or production environment.

Those without an undergraduate degree, but more than 2 years of experience working within a logistical and/or production environment may also be considered for the role.

The ideal person in this role has the ability to work independently and as part of a team. This position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, and the ability to provide high quality support to meet internal and external deliverables.

Ability to respond professionally in a fast-pace environment, effectively work within a small team, help to resolve issues and collaborate internally to overcome obstacles are skills that are essential to this position.

Physical abilities that allow an individual to work within a lab & facilities environments are required. Individuals must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, and be able to stay on their feet for prolonged periods of time (6-8 hours at a time).

Non-business hour availability is strictly required for ad-hoc logistics that are required to maintain compliance of our Biobanks. This includes being oncall for evenings, weekends, and paid holidays - which is on a rotation with other Biobanking Technicians.

Coriell, Recruitment, & Temporary Role Conditions

The role will be temporary for an initial thirty (30) day period, which may be extended for additional thirty (30) day periods at the sole discretion of Coriell. Dependent on business need and performance within this temporary role, there is potential for this role to be converted to a permanent, full-time position eligible for benefits; however, there is no guarantee of this role becoming a permanent position. Due to the detrimental outcomes that can result from SOPs not being followed in our Biobank Storage Facility, only candidates with strong attention to detail will be considered for permanent placement and/or any extensions of the temporary period. This temporary role is an at-will position, and can be terminated at any time by Coriell or the employee.
