Job summary

AstraZeneca plc in Gaithersburg, MD, USA seeks a Biobank Scientist to maintain the human biological samples inventory in line with GCP, SOPs and global standards. You will oversee receipt, logging, storage, tracking, processing, dispatch, return and disposal using specialised IT systems and liaise with HBS users and stakeholders.

The role leads process and IT improvements, provides local training, coordinates with biobank teams, and supports microtomy, staining, scanning and digital image

Qualifications

• Degree in a scientific discipline with required experience: BSc + 5 years or MSc + 2 years.
• Experience in biobanking and working with HBS.
• Fluent in English with strong communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Receive and register incoming HBS with traceability and compliance.
• Manage end-to-end sample workflow: receipt, logging, storage, tracking, processing, dispatch, return and disposal.
• Act as first escalation point for histology issues and resolve problems.
• Perform histology activities including microtomy and staining; assess process challenges.
• Sectioning and other histology techniques; aliquoting support where needed.
• Track work-in-progress using informatics systems to maintain visibility.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and root-cause investigations.
• Provide training to science partners and liaise with internal/external stakeholders.
