Job summary
The Allen Institute is seeking a talented developer to build web-based and Python tools for processing and visualizing large-scale 5D biological imaging data. You will work on front-end and Python tooling to assist scientists, with collaboration across design and research teams in a supportive environment.
Ideal candidates have experience with Typescript/CSS/React and Python for scientific computing, plus an interest in performance, scalability, and databases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent combination of degree and experience.
- Minimum 1 year of related experience.
- Experience with Typescript/CSS/React and deploying web applications.
- Experience with Python for scientific computing; for example: numpy, pandas, scipy, xarray, dask
- Experience or interest in performance optimization and scalability
- Familiarity with both relational and document databases
- Solid foundation in matrices and linear algebra
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain core image analysis, visualization, and data tools.
- Implement frontend to specification.
- Develop Python tools to aid scientists and scale workflows.
- Optimize loading/saving large image arrays with metadata.
- Gather requirements and identify new tool opportunities.
- Collaborate with design, advise on technical approaches.
- Follow best practices: tests, code reviews, standards.
- Adhere to source control, issues, staging, deployment, and docs.
