The Bindery Machine & Treatment Operator Level I is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting a variety equipment (cutting, folding, and/or stitching) to meet daily production and quality goals in a safe and efficient manner.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates various bindery equipment such as buckle folder, saddle stitch, cutter, or sheet laminating.
- Feeds, stocks, moves, jogs, arranges, unloads, and rotates items on/off bindery and/or finishing equipment in accordance with operating instructions.
- Understands different paper weights, sizes, kinds, and colors to be able to identify paper conditions
- Cuts the paper for their jobs.
- Monitors quality and performs all required testing and makes any equipment adjustments necessary
- Performs housekeeping and preventative maintenance duties on all machines and work areas
- Reads and understands work orders, layout sheets, and other specifications prior to starting the assigned job.
- Completes all work timely and accurately.
- Consistently produce smooth runs by using basic mechanical aptitude.
- Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Cross trains in other areas of the print shop.
- Performs other duties as assigned by direct Supervisor.
Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience
- High School education or equivalent is required.
- 1 year of solid work experience running industrial equipment preferred.
- Prior experience within the printing industry is ideal.

- Ability to prioritize and multi-task for maximum efficiency without sacrificing accuracy.
- Ability to skillfully use hand tools or machines needed to perform tasks.
- Ability to read and comprehend written forms and instructions.
- Competency to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Works independently and/or in a team environment, cooperating with co-workers.
