Job Description: Bindery Basic Equipment Operator

The primary responsibility of this position is to finish and package printed products. This involves setting up and assembling components manually or operating basic bindery/finishing equipment, such as shrink-wrapper, cutter, padding racks, rubber stamp assembly, three-hole drill, spiral punch & binder, tab laminator & cutter, stitcher, box maker, table-top folder, table-top laminator, and high-speed punch.

Responsibilities:

1. Read and understand written job specifications to ensure accurate production details.
2. Set up and manually assemble components into final kitted products.
3. Safely and efficiently operate all basic bindery/finishing equipment.
4. Package, label, and palletize final products correctly.
5. Maintain equipment and work areas in a safe and clean condition.
6. Accurately record production time and materials using shop-floor data collection terminals.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Knowledge of volume and weight measurements.
• Mechanical skills and abilities.
• Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds, stand/walk for long hours, and perform bending and squatting.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Adaptability and versatility to handle changing work requirements.
• Willingness to work variable schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma plus bindery trade school training or diploma.
• At least one year of trade bindery work experience.
• Bindery trade certification(s).
• Knowledge of chain-of-custody procedures.
• Operational knowledge of all equipment.
• Understanding of mailing regulations.
• Familiarity with Publix and Printing Services coding systems.
• Knowledge of shipping and distribution processes.
• Experience with Monarch Data Collection terminals.
• Understanding of SDS, LOTO, PPE, and safety policies.
• Basic printing knowledge, especially regarding binding principles and quality control.
