Job summary

Tropic Mechanical is seeking a BIM/CAD Director to lead our BIM and CAD departments, overseeing standards, workflows, and technology integrations across project lifecycles in a fast-paced Florida market.

You will collaborate with project teams and senior leadership to ensure model accuracy, clash detection, and drive digital construction initiatives, with a strong emphasis on Trimble technologies and constructability reviews.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7–10 years of experience in BIM/CAD management, coordination, or construction technology.
• Experience leading or supervising CAD/BIM staff.
• Experience in commercial construction, engineering, architecture, or related fields.
• Experience supporting preconstruction, estimating, project management, and field operations preferred.

Job description

The BIM/Virtual Design & Construction Director is responsible for leading the organization's Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) departments. This position oversees the development and implementation of BIM processes, standards, workflows, and technology integrations that improve project efficiency, accuracy, coordination, and collaboration. The CAD/BIM Director works closely with project managers, engineers, estimators, field personnel, and senior leadership to ensure BIM and CAD technologies are effectively integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

• Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide BIM and CAD standards, protocols, workflows, and best practices.
• Lead, manage, train, mentor, and evaluate CAD/BIM department personnel.
• Oversee the development and implementation of BIM Execution Plans for projects.
• Ensure BIM deliverables comply with client requirements, project specifications, and company standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, estimators, and field teams to integrate BIM into project workflows.
• Manage BIM and CAD software licenses, updates, user access, and system utilization.
• Oversee model coordination, clash detection, and model review processes to identify and resolve design and installation conflicts.
• Promote innovation in digital construction technologies, model-based workflows, and construction technology.
• Prepare and present BIM progress reports, performance updates, and recommendations to senior leadership and clients.
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, security, and proper organization of BIM models and related documentation.
• Support preconstruction and estimating teams by providing accurate model-based quantity takeoffs and project data.
• Establish performance metrics and continuously evaluate BIM/CAD processes for opportunities to improve productivity and quality.
• Coordinate with software vendors and technology partners as needed.
• Support project teams in troubleshooting BIM/CAD issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in BIM/CAD management, coordination, or construction technology.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
• Experience working in commercial construction, engineering, architecture, or a related industry.
• Experience supporting preconstruction, estimating, project management, and field operations preferred.

Required Skills

• Expert knowledge of BIM software platforms and CAD applications.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction processes, design coordination, and project delivery.
• Experience with Trimble technologies and related construction software preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement BIM standards and workflows.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.

• Occasional travel to jobsites, company offices, client locations, and industry events may be required.

This position primarily works in a professional office environment and may occasionally require visits to active construction sites. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when visiting jobsites.
