Job description

Job Summary

The BIM/VDC Intern / Co-Op will assist in BIM/VDC operations across all projects, ensuring seamless coordination with clients and sub-consultants to meet BIM/VDC standards. This role will collaborate with Dennis Group project discipline leads and the BIM Manager to drive internal BIM/VDC standardization efforts. Projects will include both existing building renovations and new construction, requiring documentation for various disciplines such as Architecture, Electrical, Fire Protection, HVAC, Piping (Mechanical, Process, Plumbing), and Structural. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for BIM/VDC innovations and emerging technologies within the AEC industry.

Responsibilities

BIM Strategy and Planning:

  • Help complete BIM execution plans (BEP) on all projects, aligned with project requirements and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with discipline leads to establish project goals, deliverables, and timelines.

Model Management:

  • Oversee the creation, coordination, and maintenance of BIM models to ensure accuracy and clash-free designs.
  • Conduct model reviews, quality checks, and audits to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Manage model data, including versioning, sharing, and integration across platforms.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide guidance on BIM software tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, ACC, Autocad, Plant3d) and ensure their proper use.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to BIM workflows and interoperability between software.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging BIM technologies, and best practices.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Act as a point of contact for BIM-related queries from clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Ensure clear communication of BIM requirements and updates across all project phases.

Training and Development:

  • Help train team members on BIM tools, processes, and standards to enhance project efficiency.
  • Mentor junior designers to build healthy modeling habits.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in BIM practices.

Innovation and Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to integrate advanced technologies (e.g., AI, VR/AR, cloud collaboration) into BIM workflows.
  • Streamline processes to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance project outcomes.

About You

  • Associate’s degree in computer-Aided Design, bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or completion of a Construction Management Certificate Program (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience in an EPC firm or equivalent construction industry role
  • Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and other design authoring platforms
  • Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus
  • Familiarity with industry-standard BIM/VDC documentation (e.g., BEP, BIMForum)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Travel 10% to 15% per year to office locations or project sites

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
