Job summary

Actalent is seeking a VDC Specialist to translate design intent into BIM fabrication models for plumbing, mechanical and HVAC systems, and to produce LOD400 BIM for these systems.

You will coordinate with general contractors and subcontractors to ensure proper spatial alignment, attend weekly meetings onsite or virtually, and mentor junior staff in modelling software and fabrication documentation.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, CADMEP, and Navisworks.
• Knowledge of BIM related software.
• 5+ years of experience with installation or 3D modeling of mechanical or plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

• Translate design intents into BIM fabrication models for plumbing, mechanical & HVAC.
• Produce LOD400 BIM for mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Coordinate with GC and subcontractors for trades coordination.
• Attend weekly coordination meetings on-site or virtually.
• Generate RFIs for design team when required.
• Create shop drawings for fabrication and installation.
• Annotate shop, hanger, and sleeve drawings.
• Export hanger/sleeve coordinates for field layout.
• Mentor junior VDC specialists on modelling software.
• Provide on-the-job training on fabrication documents (BOMs, pipe lists, labels, reports).
• Meet project schedules with team; maintain training and education.
• Provide input on hardware/software needs.

Responsibilities

• Translate design intent contract documents or 3D design models of Plumbing, Mechanical and HVAC systems into fabrication and installation detail Building Information Models utilizing BIM fabrication modelling software.
• Work with engineers and managers to produce LOD400 BIM for mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Work with General Contractor and other subcontractors to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
• Attend weekly coordination meetings, either onsite or virtually, to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
• Generate RFI's to be submitted to the design team when required.
• Create detailed shop drawings for the purposes of fabrication and installation of associated trades.
• Create and annotate shop drawings, hanger drawings, and sleeve drawings.
• Create and export hanger and sleeve coordinates to be utilized by the robotic total station layout team for field layout.
• Communicate with field personnel to ensure that fabrication and installation intent is clearly communicated on shop and spool drawings.
• Mentor and train Junior VDC Specialists on the use of modelling and collaboration software.
• Provide on the job training on the creation of fabrication and installation drawings and documents including bills of materials, pipe cut lists, fabrication labels, hanger labels, and reports.
• Work with other team members to complete drawings and models as required to meet project schedules.
• Maintain training and continued education for incumbent and team to continually improve accuracy and productivity.
• Provide input to management regarding both hardware and software requirements to perform duties.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication CADMEP, and Autodesk Navisworks.
• Knowledge of BIM related software
• 5 or more years of experience with installation or 3D modeling of mechanical or plumbing systems.
• Prior experience working at a mechanical contractor (preferred)

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newark, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
