Qualifications

  • Associate degree in BIM with 7+ years of progressive experience or 9 years without a degree.
  • Intermediate knowledge of BIM interoperability, ISO 19650, and data governance.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Python, Power BI, Assembly Codes, BIM governance and IFC.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead teams through projects.

Position Summary

A BIM Specialist II is the driving force behind our BIM discipline, providing intermediate level guidance and input in the strategic development and implementation of BIM strategies across projects. This position encompasses a range of responsibilities including leading model development, BIM automation, data quality assurance, process optimization and technical leadership.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
BIM Process Development
  • Develops complex automation scripts and custom coding to enhance BIM workflows and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Coordinates and leads kickoff meetings for computational development projects to define objectives and deliverables.
  • Collaborates with project teams to identify opportunities for automation and coding to improve efficiency.
  • Creates complex data flow diagrams to visualize the flow of information within BIM processes and workflows in a clear and understandable manner to illustrate the transfer of data between BIM software applications and project stakeholders.
  • Generates complex data visualizations (charts, graphs and diagrams) to present BIM-related information in a visually informative way.
  • Designs and generates complex data validation processes to verify the accuracy and quality of data within BIM models and databases. Implements data validation checks to ensure that BIM data meets established standards and project requirements. Collaborates with project teams to resolve data validation issues and discrepancies.
  • Plans the implementation of ISO 19650 standards for BIM processes and information management. Once implemented, ensures that BIM practices align with ISO 19650 requirements, contributing to compliance and documentation efforts.
  • Collaborates with ISO 19650 stakeholders to facilitate ISO-related activities and maintain adherence to industry standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
BIM Product Development
  • Manages and enforces BIM data standards and protocols for projects. Ensures data accuracy, consistency and compliance with organizational BIM data governance and industry standards. Collaborates with project teams to implement defined data governance strategies.
  • Creates a comprehensive asset register for specified assets on projects using BIM as a starting point. Collaborates with data stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability between different BIM tools and platforms with IFC file formats.
  • Collaborate s with stakeholders to implement IFC-based data sharing solutions. Maintains working knowledge and understanding of IFC schema and engineering design schema.
  • Appli es assembly codes for accurate component identification with industry standard classification systems. Coordinates with other services for advanced uses of assembly codes.
  • Creates or modifi es COBie data sets for complex projects. Gathers and organize s detailed information about building assets in COBie format.
Business Development
  • Collaborates on business development or pursuit activities.
  • Participates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
Client Experience
  • Fosters a client-centric mindset and approach.
  • Communicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of work. Maintains proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
  • Answers questions from clients and architects.
  • Assists in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as needed.
  • Participate s in coordination meetings to discuss BIM-related issues, updates and progress.
  • Identifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basis.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of industry software including Revit and Microsoft Office Products. Acts as a resource for training or assisting others as needed.
  • Researche s and reviews new products, industry trends and evolving codes and standards.
  • Conducts training sessions to improve user proficiency in utilizing Revit beyond basic design.
  • Understands and applies design guidelines, standards, policies and procedures.
Project Management
  • Performs a limited range of project management responsibilities under the supervision of experienced managers. Asks questions when performing unfamiliar tasks.
  • May support or be responsible for BIM-related project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions and coordinating project delivery.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associate degree in relevant field of BIM (i.e.: BIM/CAD Technology) and 7 years of relevant, progressive experience or 9 years of experience without degree utilizing BIM to produce mechanical and electrical drawings in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or electrical fields required. BIM certificate from an accredited program may be counted toward 1 year of direct experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards required. Knowledge applicable to a range of practices, project or program types preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of BIM technology, interoperability of BIM software platforms, computing technologies and industry-specific standards.
  • Basic proficiency with CMMS, SQL and JSON required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel, Python, PowerBI, Assembly Codes, BIM data governance and IFC required.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit, Dynamo, BIM Interoperability Tools, graphical flow diagrams, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, COBie, and Imaginit Clarity required.
  • Basic proficiency with Navisworks API, Rhino, Grasshopper, Jupyter notebook, and Recap preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Navisworks and ISO 19650 required; intermediate proficiency preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and software applicable to your discipline or focus required.
  • High technical aptitude with the ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes. Comfortability with training others on systems and processes.
