Job summary

McKenney’s Inc. in Atlanta, GA seeks a BIM Project Engineer to join our team for a 9–12 month entry-level program designed to expose you to pre-construction, design, virtual construction and field installation.

You will learn detailing of mechanical systems, BIM coordination with customers and trades, and how we estimate projects while collaborating with suppliers and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in BIM Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
  • Equivalent business management degree with construction or engineering focus and 1–2 years of project management experience.
  • If no degree, a minimum of 5+ years of internal experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in the office or field.
  • Must have PC experience in Windows environments, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software.

Responsibilities

  • Learn McKenney’s pre-construction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation of mechanical systems, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate McKenney’s work with customers and other trades through the BIM process.
  • Assist with estimating projects and interacting with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Work in the field as part of an installation crew and develop relationships with project managers and foremen.

McKenney's Inc. is seeking a BIM Project Engineer to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia. This exciting role is a 9‑12‑month entry‑level position designed to expose the employee to McKenney’s processes, capabilities, and scope of work before moving into an Assistant Project Manager, BIM Project Manager, Engineer, or Sales Engineer.

Position Summary

As a Project Engineer, you will work in a team environment where you will participate and learn McKenney’s pre‑construction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation of mechanical systems, and start‑up and commissioning of those systems. Learning objectives in this role include, but are not limited to, the detailing of mechanical systems (ductwork, mechanical piping, and plumbing), coordinating McKenney’s work with customers and other trades through the BIM process, estimating projects, interacting with our suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors, and working in the field as part of an installation crew. In addition to this training, we expect the Project Engineer to develop good relationships through regular interactions with project managers, field and shop foremen, virtual construction team members, field operations, engineers, suppliers, and other trade sub‑contractors.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in BIM Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management
  • Will accept an equivalent business management degree with a focus in construction or engineering and 1–2 years of project management experience overseeing technicians working with mechanical systems
  • If no degree, a minimum of 5+ years of internal experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in the office or the field
  • Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e‑mail, Web‑enabled applications, and database software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the construction industry
  • Two years of experience managing mechanical work
  • Strong business acumen (entrepreneurship counts)
  • Knowledge of account management (managing multiple customers)
  • Leadership exposure (conferences, training, etc.)
  • Experience with Autodesk Fabrication, Revit, and Navisworks

  • Strong leadership skills, self‑motivated, team‑oriented, and able to respond quickly to changing customer demands
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals. Must be a self‑starter with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.)
  • Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed, as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
  • Must possess and maintain an exceptional work ethic and high level of project ownership, as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
  • Must be persistent and able to attain results under adverse circumstances and conflict
Working Conditions & Physical Effort
  • Work will be performed in both a normal office environment and on active construction project sites
  • Limited exposure to physical risks
  • Limited physical effort will be required
