Job summary

Giga Energy is hiring a BIM Designer, Electrical & I&C to own the federated model for the electrical scope and coordinate multi-discipline design through fabrication. The role sits in a growing BIM team and collaborates with electrical, structural, and civil designers to keep one federated model as the single source of truth.

You will work on an in-office culture with onsite expectations in Houston, SF, or Long Beach, with bi-weekly WFH Fridays and exceptions for exceptional talent remote

Qualifications

• 5+ years of BIM modeling experience with federated multi-discipline coordination.
• Expert-level Revit with family creation, parametrics and worksharing.
• Navisworks clash detection: build and run tests, resolve issues.
• Direct experience with electrical power infrastructure: substations and switchgear.
• Able to read electrical diagrams and schematics with minimal guidance.
• Proven ability to lead a coordination process and maintain cadence.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain federated Revit/Navisworks models for electrical scope.
• Model to project stages from concept (LOD200/300) to fabrication (LOD400).
• Convert MCAD geometry into usable Revit families and IFC content.
• Run clash tests, triage issues, and track closures with evidence.
• Publish coordination reports and participate in review meetings.
• Develop BIM standards, templates, and naming conventions.
• Maintain a parametric library for transformers, switchboards, and skids.
• Generate coordination drawings and model-derived quantities for procurement.
• Maintain model health with purging, auditing, and worksharing hygiene.

What you'll do

As a BIM Designer, Electrical & I&C, you'll own the federated model for our electrical scope — substations, switchgear, cable tray and busway, conduit and raceway — and run the coordination process that keeps discipline models moving from concept through fabrication-grade release. This role sits inside our growing BIM function, working shoulder-to-shoulder with electrical, structural, and civil designers to keep one federated model as the single source of truth from design through fabrication and field support.

Where you'll work

We are an in-office culture — velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain federated Revit and Navisworks models for electrical scope — MV/HV substations, padmount transformers, switchgear, UL 891 switchboard lineups, cable tray, busway, conduit, and raceway
• Model to the level of development each project stage requires, from concept (LOD 200/300) through fabrication-ready (LOD 400) shop release
• Reconcile MCAD equipment geometry (Inventor / SolidWorks / STEP) into usable Revit families and IFC content
• Run scheduled Navisworks clash tests against a documented test matrix, triage issues by root cause, and track every clash to closure with evidence
• Publish clash and coordination reports on a fixed cadence and participate in coordination review meetings
• Build and enforce BIM standards — templates, worksets, shared parameters, naming conventions, and view templates
• Build and maintain the parametric family library for Giga's recurring equipment, including transformers, switchboards, breakers, skids, and enclosures
• Generate coordination drawings, general arrangements, and model-derived quantity takeoffs to support procurement and estimating
• Maintain model health — purging, auditing, worksharing hygiene, and file size discipline as projects scale

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional BIM modeling experience, including at least 3 years coordinating federated multi-discipline models, not single-discipline drafting
• Expert-level Autodesk Revit, including family creation, parametric content, worksharing, and template configuration
• Demonstrated ownership of Navisworks Manage clash detection — building test matrices, running batch tests, and managing issue resolution
• Direct experience with electrical power infrastructure — substations, switchgear, transformers, or high-capacity power distribution
• Working fluency in NEC / NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE / ANSI C57, UL 891, and NEMA enclosure standards
• Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and structural steel drawings without hand-holding
• Track record of independently running a coordination process — setting cadence, chasing other disciplines, and holding a schedule

Bonus points

• Experience designing electrical systems for data centers, mission-critical, or other technically complex industrial facilities
• Modular, skid-mounted, or e-house / prefabricated equipment experience
• ISO 19650 information management practice and BIM Execution Plan authorship
• 4D construction sequencing experience (Navisworks TimeLiner or Synchro)
• Prior work inside an OEM or manufacturing environment, where the model feeds a production line rather than an architect
