Billing Specialist - Insurance Collections Focused

The Insurance Collections Focused Specialist will work on aging reports (specifically from our Alpha insurance list), maintain insurance correspondence, answer billing line inquiries, and perform other duties to support the billing department and customer service.

Please note that this position is REMOTE, but you must reside in the state of TN. Out-of-state applicants are not eligible to work remotely for this role.

Minimum Essential Job Requirements

• Monitor insurance aging reports to address unpaid claims promptly
• Process refund requests and submit for approval
• Contact insurance companies regarding outstanding balances and resolve unpaid claims
• Respond to written and phone inquiries from patients regarding billing
• Resubmit insurance claims and submit appeals as needed
• Assist patients via billing line and promote online payment options
• Perform miscellaneous tasks delegated by the manager

Knowledge, Skills, and Competency Requirements

• High school diploma required; college or trade school preferred
• Experience in physician office or hospital billing preferred
• Ability to discuss financial responsibilities and establish payment plans
• Proficiency with email and various applications
• Knowledge of Billing and Collections procedures, CPT, and ICD-10-CM coding
• Orthopedic claims experience is a plus
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite
• Ability to operate standard office equipment
• Understanding of managed care, Medicare, Medicaid reimbursement
• Knowledge of EOB forms, claim forms, and insurance billing process
• Proficient use of billing and scheduling software
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Professional appearance
