Job summary

Shawnee Health, a leading healthcare organization in Southern Illinois, is hiring a Billing Specialist II for the Shawnee Alliance Billing office. The role reports to the Revenue Cycle Director and focuses on accurate and timely posting of charges, payments and adjustments across provider types.

Requirements include a High School Diploma; knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial billing guidelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promptly and professionally answers, screens, and processes medical service requests and telephone inquiries with confidentiality policies.
• Completes SFA applications proficiently and passes annual testing for SFA Application processing.
• Refers patients to appropriate staff per established protocols.
• Attends and completes all assigned training through the LMS and other resources.
• Meets service and department benchmarks/quality indicators as monitored through audits.
• Supports organizational changes and provides coverage during high volume or staff shortages.
• Posts charges, payments and adjustments timely for all provider specialties and payer types, using physician and medical records notes.
• Understands CMS, AMA, ADA and Medicaid coding rules and regulations.
• Pursues timely follow up of accounts receivable, works insurance denials, discusses accounts with patients, and handles self-pay balances per policy.
• Follows Shawnee Health Service policies and procedures.

Shawnee Health is seeking a Billing Specialist II for our Shawnee Alliance Billing office. This position reports directly to the Revenue Cycle Director.

Responsibilities

• Promptly and professionally answers, screens, and processes medical service requests and telephone inquiries with strict adherence to confidentiality policies.
• Ability to complete SFA applications proficiently and pass testing for SFA Application processing as indicated on an annual basis.
• Refers patients to the appropriate staff, according to patient request per established protocols. i.e. triage, medical records, patient care coordinators, case management and ACA staff.
• Attends/completes all assigned training through learning management system and other resources as required.
• Meets Shawnee Health Service and department benchmarks and or quality indicators as monitored through audits and or recordings.
• Supports organizational changes, demonstrates flexibility in providing coverage as needed during times of high volume or staff shortages.
• Responsible for the timely posting of charges, payments and adjustments for medical services for all provider specialties and payer types, utilizing the patient encounter information as directed by physicians and medical records notes.
• Have a comprehensive understanding of coding rules and regulations by CMS, AMA, ADA and Medicaid.
• Provides timely follow up of accounts receivable financial classes. Works denials from insurance carriers. Discusses accounts with patients and/or responsible parties. Works self-pay balances after insurance in accordance with Shawnee Health Service credit and collection policy.
• Must have an excellent understanding of all Shawnee Health Service policies and procedures.

Starting salary - $18.00 - 19.68/hour, based on experience
