Job Description Billing Specialist (Full Time)
Location: Mercer County

Position Overview

This position will assist with payment posting, patient collections, sliding fee applications, secondary billing, and other duties, as assigned to support the billing department to function at a high level. This position will contribute to the patient care environment by identifying, analyzing, and problem-solving billing related issues when required.

Essential Functions
  • Manually post payments and ensure proper daily balancing of batch totals
  • Import auto posting files and prepare related batches
  • Review patient balances to determine when collection efforts should take place. Implement collections policy and ensure appropriate notices are produced and sent out to patients in accordance with policies
  • Field patient phone calls, take patient payments, set up payment plans, review and research patient accounts for purposes of identifying billing trends and maintaining a clean AR aging
  • Educate and assist patients with the completion and submission of sliding fee discount program (SFDP) applications. Review and recommend for approval SFDP applications. Assist with SFDP renewal applications.
  • Document all communications with Insurance carriers, patients, and other sources associated with the patients financial account
  • Assist with insurance verification, run eligibilities, and determine appropriate insurance classification for uninsured or self-pay patients
  • Must be able to accurately identify and populate account demographics
  • Must be able to enter basic formulas and calculation in Excel for tracking purposes
  • Must be able to attend staff meetings and any site requested
  • Other duties, as assigned
Location and Hours of Position

PHN Billing Department: 118 Vine Avenue, Sharon, PA 16146. The general office hours for this position are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.

Compensation

Minimum starting wage is $16.00 per hour. PHN does recognize education, experience and location when determining wage.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years experience in a related billing or clerical position
  • Knowledge of basic patient accounting and medical billing principles
  • Data entry in a high-volume work environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communication skills and working relationships with other employees, patients, organizations, and the community
