Job summary

StatCare, a private Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep, and Hospitalist practice serving East Tennessee, seeks a Billing Specialist to ensure charges and patient accounts are updated accurately. You will work with physicians, insurance companies, and patients to resolve billing issues and maintain compliant records.

Responsibilities include posting charges with ICD-10/CPT codes, auditing accounts, updating information, and assisting with authorizations.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10/CPT coding.
  • Accurate data entry and computer skills.
  • Strong spelling, grammar, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply policies and respond to varied situations.
  • Ability to work with physicians, patients, staff.

Responsibilities

  • Post patient charges to billing system using codes.
  • Investigate and resolve billing issues with accounts.
  • Update and audit patient account information.
  • Communicate with insurance companies and patients.
  • Assist with hospital patient information and authorization numbers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with corporate policies.
  • Support office functions as needed.

Billing Specialist role e nsures that charges and patient accounts are updated in a timely and accurate manner. Identifies, investigates and resolves billing issues with patient accounts.

Examples of Duties (List does not include all duties assigned)
  • Posts patient charges to the billing system, using appropriate codes (ICD-10/CPT.
  • Investigates action forms and formulates solutions.
  • Assists in maintaining, updating and auditing the patient account information.
  • Adjusts patient accounts according to established policies and procedures.
  • Cross-trains other staff in job duties, charge entry functions, skills, and updates, as coordinated with the manager.
  • Communicates with insurance companies and patients as needed.
  • Communicates appropriate problems, questions and/or concerns to a manager.
  • Updates patient account information continuously, so records reflect the most updated information possible.
  • Attends training and other meetings as appropriate; keeps current on revisions related to insurance participation, registration, coding and computer skills.
  • Obtains all required hospital patient information utilizing secure access to hospital patient records.
  • Assists with obtaining authorization numbers from insurance companies and hospitals.
  • Assists with other office functions, such as sorting faxes, checking in charges, paging physicians, and replenishing supplies, as requested.
  • Communicates with insurance companies, patients and physicians as necessary.
  • Maintains work area in neat and orderly manner.
  • Assists in ordering and monitoring supplies, as requested.
  • Assists colleagues in department and other office personnel, as appropriate.
  • Adheres to all elements of the established corporate compliance plan.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality both internally and externally.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Skill in data entry, processing, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of basic spelling, grammar and punctuation to process patient information.
  • Ability to apply policies and principles to solve everyday problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, staff and the public.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.

Educaton: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Prefer two years' experience in a billing with a hospital-based physician practice.

WORK LOCATION: Hybrid schedule opportunity after 90 days with alternating weeks between administrative offices and home.
