Job description

Are you a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys investigating claims, balancing the books, and ensuring the financial health of an organization?

New Leaf Behavioral Health is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, accessible, and high-quality mental health care to our community. We are seeking a part-time Billing and Revenue Cycle Specialist to oversee our insurance claims processes, manage bookkeeping tasks, and support client account inquiries. This position plays an important role in ensuring our revenue cycle operates efficiently, outstanding balances are successfully resolved, and our financial records are meticulously maintained.

Hours:

Part-time (e.g., 15–20 hours per week). Flexible scheduling available within standard business hours.

Who You Are:
  • A Financial Detective: You don't wait for issues to become problems, and you enjoy getting to the bottom of unpaid claims. You recognize when a billing process isn't working, investigate the root cause with insurance payers, and take appropriate action to secure resolution.
  • Detail-Oriented and Accountable: You have an exceptional eye for accuracy and take pride in producing high-quality work. Whether reviewing complex insurance claims, reconciling bank accounts, or managing financial records, you understand that small details matter.
  • A Champion of Organization: You naturally create order from complexity. You enjoy developing efficient billing workflows, tracking financial metrics, and ensuring revenue cycle procedures are consistently followed.
  • A Professional Communicator: You enjoy supporting others while maintaining accountability. You are comfortable working closely with clients to explain their balances, collaborating with clinicians on documentation needs, and interfacing with insurance representatives to accomplish financial goals.
Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and monitor unpaid insurance claims, working actively to appeal denials, fix rejections, and resolve outstanding payer balances.
  • Audit billing codes and processes to ensure accurate reimbursement and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate billing documentation.
Bookkeeping & Financial Administration
  • Perform routine bookkeeping activities, including recording payments, reconciling accounts, and preparing deposits.
  • Maintain highly accurate financial records and perform data entry with a high degree of precision across accounting and billing platforms.
  • Assist leadership with month-end financial reporting, revenue tracking, and small financial projects.
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic financial records while ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.
Client Accounts & Experience
  • Follow up on client balances professionally and courteously, helping clients understand their financial responsibilities, statements, and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Assist in resolving client billing concerns with professionalism, discretion, and compassion.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients and community partners regarding financial inquiries.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and health information in accordance with federal and state privacy laws.

Technical Proficiency
  • Comfortable using Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing platforms.
  • Experience with bookkeeping or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) is highly preferred.
