Job summary

UChicago Medicine Billing Analyst I in the Pharmacy Department focuses on monitoring ambulatory billing operations, verifying charge accuracy, and reconciling supply and facility-based charges under supervision. The role collaborates with Senior Billing Analyst and Nursing to ensure proper charge capture and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years in hospital billing, with CPT/ICD-9 knowledge and a willingness to obtain CPC/RHIT/RHIA within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1–3 years’ experience with pharmacy or hospital billing operations.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding; certification within twelve months: CPC, RHIT, RHIA or any combination.
  • Successful completion of medical terminology course.
  • Familiarity with large healthcare information systems (IDX, OACIS, EPIC and/or Last Word preferred).
  • Experience in PC based spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Must be analytical and have excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage interpersonal relationships and multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all ambulatory and specialty third party charges are being paid and identify reimbursement losses from third party payers.
  • Follows all departmental policies, procedures, and billing regulations such as LMRPs, APCs, diagnosis coding and documentation.
  • Interfaces with Nursing, Vendors, and Supply Chain to reconcile discrepancies in charge and procedural documentation
  • Works with Supply Chain to enter new product information to assure correct accounts and billing codes have been assigned
  • Assists in resolution of charge disputes or third-party audits
  • Performs other duties related to revenue capture and reimbursement as assigned.

In this role, we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work 8-hour shifts, day shift approximately between the hours of 9am-5:30pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work a remote-hybrid schedule. The days of the week that you are scheduled will be Monday-Friday, and no weekends. This is subject to change.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
