Job description

Provides routine patient care to adults under the supervision of licensed personnel. Responsible for initial patient interaction including blood pressure monitoring, glucose monitoring, blood draws, vaccination, and patient education. Directly assigns and monitors the daily duties of all MOA staff and works with the licensed nursing staff supervisor to assure efficient high quality patient care services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Documented validation of technical skills or completion of an organized course for nursing assistants or a minimum of 3-years' experience is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical office assistant training course, military corpsman training program, or nursing assistant course.
  • Ability to use various computer programs, applications and standardized word processing required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse, patient-centered, holistic atmosphere.
  • Familiar with operation of electronic office machines (phones, copier, fax)
  • Fluent in English and Spanish

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Patient Assessments and diagnostics
  • Performs patient assessment (vital signs, allergies, referring physician, glucose monitoring) under the direction of licensed personnel; documents appropriately.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with co-workers all relevant information necessary for quality patient care.
  • Reports all unusual conditions or patient reactions to the staff physician.
  • Provide appropriate patient education as required.
  • Accurately performs diagnostic procedures; urinalysis, venipuncture, lab testing, lab draws, and appropriately completes the required documentation for all State laboratories
  • Collects specimens according to the specific laboratory requirements
  • Maintains and updates log of labs.
  • Supervision and Leadership
  • Assigns and communicates all daily Medical Office Assistant (MOA) duties.
  • Monitors and assures efficient completion of MOA duties
  • Communicates patient care problems or any MOA issues or concerns to lead physician.
  • Works with MOA's and the lead physician to identify continuing education needs of MOA's.
  • Ensures all patient appointment reminder calls are performed daily.
  • Provides input and assists the lead physician with annual performance reviews of MOA personnel.
  • Supply and organization

Responsible for cleaning and stocking exam and treatment rooms.

  • Checks equipment assigned to patient care; inventories clinic supplies.
  • Responsible for notifying the supervisor of needed supplies in a timely manner.
  • Additional tasks as needed
  • Cross trains with other support staff to assist as needed as relating to patient care.
  • Exhibits a willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Ask questions before beginning an unfamiliar assignment.
