Job summary

Medavie is seeking a Senior Group Underwriter to join the Group Insurance Pricing team. You will help establish pricing for health, life, and disability products while collaborating with cross‑functional colleagues to ensure financial objectives are met.

The role emphasizes pricing strategy, client interactions, and mentoring of junior staff, with a flexible schedule and potential for work from home where feasible.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in business administration, mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or finance.
• 5–10 years experience in group insurance pricing.
• Strong MS Office knowledge, esp. Excel and Word.
• Excellent judgment, analytical and attention to detail.
• Flexible in changing environment with multiple priorities.
• Excellent negotiation and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Establish pricing for RFPs, renewals, and benefit changes.
• Draft financial agreements and reports.
• Negotiate files with group insurance advisors.
• Meet with intermediaries/clients to explain and negotiate.
• Train juniors and intermediates underwriters.
• Provide technical support to other departments.
• Perform related duties as required.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Establish pricing during the request‑for‑proposal process
• Establish renewal pricing
• Establish pricing for benefit modifications
• Draft financial agreements and prepare related financial reports
• Negotiate files with group insurance advisors
• When required, meet with market intermediaries or clients alongside the group insurance advisor to explain and negotiate files
• Participate in the ongoing training of junior and intermediate underwriters
• Provide technical support to other departments of the company
• Perform any other related tasks or general duties required by the role
  

The Ideal Candidate Would Have the Following Skills

• A post‑secondary degree in business administration, mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or finance
• 5-10 years experience in group insurance pricing
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
• Excellent reasoning, judgment, and decision‑making abilities
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time‑management skills and the ability to work in a constantly changing environment with multiple tasks and priorities
• Excellent negotiation skills and a passion for teamwork

Proficiency in English and French is required to perform the duties of this position, as it involves daily collaboration with teams and partners outside of Quebec who primarily communicate in English.

Salary Range: $91,831 to $101,014 (CAD)
