Compellier is currently seeking a dedicated Bilingual Safety Specialist to promote and manage a safe working environment for all employees. In this role, you will collaborate with various organizational units to ensure compliance with all company safety policies and applicable health and safety laws. You will be responsible developing and implementing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace.

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist’s primary responsibility will be to promote and manage a safe working environment for all company employees.

The goal will be to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide expertise for all levels of leadership regarding environmental, safety, health issues and applicable regulations
  • Be an active figure in shifting our safety culture from rules and regulatory compliance to a safety culture developed as a behavior driven value at all levels of the organization
  • Provide oversight expertise for incident investigations, development of corrective action plans and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence
  • Work to develop and standardize work processes, standards, and equipment
  • Influence leadership decisions to positively impact the outcome of safety and business
  • Communicate frequently and consistently with operational leadership, and Safety Director on areas of concern and performance metrics
  • Work closely with regional leadership to develop programs and plans as required
  • Assist individual locations with completion of goals and objectives as well as training verification
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions in regional offices and on job sites
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics
  • Responsible for writing and updating site-specific safety plans
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be Bilingual
  • Interpersonal skills to gain respect and trust of field employees and foremen
  • Basic Excel skills to compile data, analyze trends, and present findings
  • Proven experience as a safety professional
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines (federal and state)
  • Ability to produce detailed reports and develop relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent independent organizational and self-motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in construction, safety, business or related field. ~OR~
  • Associates Degree in Safety Management or related field and 2 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety ~OR~
  • High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Nationally recognized Environmental Certification(s) a Plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITION

  • Climb, crawl, and walk while carrying or operating machinery and tools upstairs, downstairs, and over potentially uneven surfaces.
  • Lift, pull, push, and carry 80 lbs. of weight intermittently.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and communicate effectively with others.
  • Sustain the stamina to perform manual labor outdoors, exposed to the elements, vibrations, loud noises, offensive smells, dust, dirt, and water in all seasons, including extreme temperatures.
  • Safely perform work with appropriate safety gear.
  • Distinguish between different colors.
  • Bend, squat, twist, and reach in various positions as the situation dictates.
  • Approximately 80% travel to various work locations in multiple states 4 out of 5 days per week will be spent traveling to/completing site visits.
