Job summary

The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. is seeking a Resident Advocate to deliver direct services in a 100-bed emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness.

You will conduct resident intake, educate on shelter guidelines, assign rooms, monitor safety, and prepare service documentation for grants while maintaining census accuracy and daily logs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree is highly desired.
• Two years' experience providing direct care in social services or residential setting.
• Bilingual required; English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Take initial intake of residents and provide orientation to shelter guidelines and services.
• Assign rooms, supervise residents, and maintain safety and order.
• Document services for grants and update daily census/logs each shift.
• Assist Food Services with daily meal counts and supervise meal times.
• Answer 24-hour hotline and conduct safety planning and crisis intervention.
• Oversee shelter bed database and orientation for volunteers and new staff.

• Full Time/Non-Exempt: 36-hours a week


• Schedule:




• Friday, Saturday and Sunday; 7am-7pm




• $33,696 annually

Description

The Bridge is in search of a Resident Advocate who will provide direct services to residents in a 100-bed emergency shelter setting for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and women and children experiencing homelessness.

Provide direct services by conducting initial intake of residents, provide orientation to educate resident about emergency shelter guidelines, services available, make room assignment; supervise residents to ensure compliance with shelter guidelines and maintain overall safety while providing quality client services. Prepare documentation of services provided in compliance with grants using clear and concise narratives; and maintain statistical records for files as assigned; update daily house census and log report each shift to keep peers abreast of residents’ status. Provide assistance to Food Services staff by conducting daily meal count on all resident’s attending meals. Oversee the residents during meal time to ensure safety and cleanliness.

Answer 24 hour hotline, LIVEchat and text to provide telephone assessments to include safety planning, crisis intervention, information and referrals. Update and assist with overseeing the HCDV shelter bed database. Ensure TBOTW account is updated and accurate bed availability is noted, daily. Conduct routine walk through of facility to monitor, and assist with the cleanliness of the shelter to help ensure resident safety; and compliance with shelter guidelines. Provide orientation to volunteers and new staff as designated. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED; Bachelor's degree is highly desired.

• Bilingual Required; English/Spanish.

Other Requirements

• Must pass criminal background investigation check


• Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License


• Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record


• Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance


• Must be authorized to work in the U.S


• Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting.
