Job summary

Residing Hope in Enterprise, FL is seeking a dedicated classroom assistant to support daily instruction and supervises students in and out of class. The role requires a high school diploma, bilingual English/Spanish, and experience with children, ESOL students, and at-risk youth.

You will assist with meals, safety, and adherence to ORR policies. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with flexible scheduling to meet department needs; this is a permanent, full-time,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate of Arts degree preferred
  • Fluent in English and Spanish in both written and oral forms
  • At least one year of prior experience working with children
  • Prior experience working in an educational setting preferred
  • Prior experience working with ESOL students preferred
  • Prior experience working with at risk youth preferred
  • Proof of ORR immunizations: Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Influenza

Responsibilities

  • Provide supplemental support to the Teacher of daily instruction to meet the education needs of the students
  • Support the Teacher and students by following designated classroom management techniques
  • Provide line of sight and sound supervision for students in the classroom and during designated activities that may occur outside of the classroom including: lunch time, physical education/outside activities, on-campus activities and field trips ensuring that mandated staff to youth ratios are maintained at all times
  • Keep records and prepare reports as requested
  • Maintain classroom schedule and instruction in absence of the teacher
  • Conduct pre- and post- educational assessments
  • Grade student assignments
  • Plan and implement physical education activities
  • Assist with meal preparation, meal distribution, and cleaning up from meals
  • Maintain the order, safety, and cleanliness of the facility, including light housekeeping chores
  • Demonstrates safety in wearing appropriate PPE when working with youth who are under a quarantine setting, this includes youth waiting for test-results or those deemed positive of an infectious disease
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Meetings, staff/teacher meetings, Planning Conferences, in-service training programs, Staff Meetings as requested
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with both FUMCH and Office of Refugee Resettlement Policy and Procedures relating to the care and supervision of Unaccompanied Children
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, with approval from BCC/ORR

Education

High school diploma required; Associate of Arts degree preferred

What You Need
  • High school diploma required; Associate of Arts degree preferred
  • Fluent in English and Spanish in both written and oral forms required
  • At least one year of prior experience working with children required
  • Prior experience working in an educational setting preferred
  • Prior experience working with students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program preferred
  • Prior experience working with at risk youth preferred
  • Proof of the ORR Currently Required Immunizations, which are subject to change per ORR guidance:
    • 2 doses- Varicella
    • 2 doses- MMR
    • 1 dose- Tdap
    • 1 dose- Influenza

  • Maintain the order, safety, and cleanliness of the facility, including light housekeeping chores which include but is not limited to: sweep/mop/vacuum floors, dusting, wipe down surface areas, window cleaning, and collecting and taking out trash.
  • Demonstrates safety in wearing appropriate PPE when working with youth who are under a quarantine setting, this includes youth waiting for test-results or those deemed positive of an infectious disease, including but not limited to Covid-19.
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Meetings, staff/teacher meetings, Planning Conferences, in-service training programs, Staff Meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with both FUMCH and Office of Refugee Resettlement Policy and Procedures relating to the care and supervision of Unaccompanied Children. This includes knowledge of legal background and authority governing the practice as related to working with Unaccompanied Children.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, with approval from BCC/ORR.
