The role supports LEP/NEP patients, links them to resources, and may perform limited written translations. Requires 40-hour accredited interpreter training and hospital setting experience; Part-time schedule tentatively 5 days weekly, 10:00am–3:00pm.

Qualifications

• High school/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must have completed an accredited medical interpreter training course (40 hours).
• Experience in a hospital setting preferred; some administration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interprets critical medical information in Spanish and English for providers, patients, and caregivers on-site and over the phone.
• Notifies supervisor of potential or actual communication problems regarding LEP/NEP patients and staff.
• Maintains confidentiality in all matters related to LEP/NEP patients and families.
• Links LEP patients and families with hospital resources.
• Performs written translation of non-critical documents on a limited basis.
• Provides timely and accurate daily records of interpreting services.
• Participates in continuing education and competency training.
• Collaborates with interpreters to ensure coverage and participates in on-call rotation.
• Assists with coordination and training of other interpreters.
