Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Spanish Interpreter to join the patient-centered team in Chicago. This full-time daytime role provides medical and general interpreting for patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team in alignment with National Standards of Practice.

The candidate will screen requests, manage urgent needs, and maintain accurate documentation. A minimum of three years’ acute care interpreting experience and a formal interpreter certification are required,

Qualifications

• Three years of medical interpreting experience in an acute care setting
• Certification in medical interpreting per National Standards of Practice (NCIHC)

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and general interpreting services for patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams in accordance with NCIHC standards.
• Screen and prioritize interpreter requests based on urgency of need.
• Maintain accurate documentation of interpretation encounters, location, duration, and purpose.
• Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure clear communication and culturally appropriate care.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain interpreting standards.
