Job summary

Kern Medical in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Medical Assistant I for the OB/Gyn Clinic on a temporary basis (up to nine months). The position is on-site and offers health benefits for extra-help staff. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred to assist diverse patients.

Under supervision, you will perform routine MA tasks in an outpatient clinic, including vital signs, specimen handling, and assisting with exams, procedures, and patient flow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent, and successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Must upload transcripts and/or certificate verifying completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Possess and maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card; may require certification within 60 days if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to exam rooms, prepares patients for exam and treatment, takes and records vital signs and other measurements.
• Administers immunizations and medications; collects, prepares, and transports specimens for lab testing.
• Assists provider with exams, procedures, and minor surgeries; acts as chaperon when needed.
• Answers telephone calls and documents encounters in the medical record; prepares forms for referrals and eligibility.
