Job summary

The Staff Pad, in partnership with a mission-driven healthcare organization, seeks a Medical Assistant (Floater) to support multiple clinics across Los Angeles, CA. You will provide clinical and administrative support to patients and providers and help keep daily operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant Certificate required; ACA-compliant program preferred.
  • CPR, BCLS, OSHA, Phlebotomy, and First Aid certifications as applicable.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pediatric vaccinations.
  • Experience with underserved populations and diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and document vital signs and medical information.
  • Maintain patient records, prescriptions, and clinical documentation in EHR and PMS.
  • Monitor inventory and assist with ordering, notify when supplies need replenishment.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms; assist with examinations and procedures.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment (X-ray and EKG) and coordinate testing as needed.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, and treatments under supervision.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing and process specimens.
  • Review orders and communicate results to patients as directed.
  • Support front desk operations including registration, scheduling, and billing.

Job description

The Staff Pad has partnered with a mission-driven healthcare organization providing comprehensive primary care to underserved populations in Loas Angeles, CA and we are looking to hire a dependable Medical Assistant (Floater) to join their Operations team.

Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to patients and healthcare providers while assisting with daily clinic operations and patient care needs.

As a Medical Assistant – Floater you would need to travel between clinic locations, sometimes with limited advance notice. Assignments may change based on staffing needs, and permanent placement at a specific clinic is not guaranteed.

What You’ll Do
  • Interview patients and obtain, document, and update vital signs and medical information
  • Maintain accurate patient records, prescriptions, and clinical documentation in EHR and practice management systems, including immunizations and medications
  • Monitor medical supply and material inventory, assist with ordering, and notify the Clinic Manager when supplies, vaccines, or medications need replenishment
  • Prepare and maintain clean, organized examination and treatment rooms, including positioning and draping patients and preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient care
  • Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment
  • Operate diagnostic equipment, including X-ray and EKG, and coordinate patient testing
  • Administer injections, immunizations, and treatments under provider supervision
  • Perform routine and proficiency laboratory testing, prepare and process specimens, and calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment as required
  • Review laboratory orders and billing for accuracy and communicate results to patients as directed
  • Perform hearing screenings, record growth parameters, and provide patient instructions for tests and procedures
  • Maintain required clinical logs, including medication, lead, refrigerator temperature, scale, and abnormal TB result records
  • Monitor patient flow and support efficient clinic operations
  • Support front desk operations, including patient registration, scheduling, telephone calls, forms, filing, and billing through the Practice Management System
  • Participate in chart reviews and other medical assistant quality and compliance activities
  • Maintain and coordinate medical records, including sending records to other offices as requested
  • Provide translation assistance or coordinate translation services when needed
  • Travel between clinic locations to provide coverage and address staffing needs
  • Assist with the Indigent Program, including patient forms and coordination with pharmaceutical companies
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and other work-related events
  • Maintain required employee health and medical requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned or modified based on business needs

What We Are Looking For
Qualifications
  • Medical Assistant Certificate required; certification from an accredited program meeting ACA requirements strongly preferred
  • CPR, BCLS, OSHA, Phlebotomy, and First Aid certifications required as applicable to job function or law
  • Two years of related experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, pediatric vaccinations, and clinical documentation
  • Experience with community organizing and working with underserved populations
  • Experience working with diverse and vulnerable communities

  • EHR and Practice Management System (PMS) experience strongly preferred
