Job summary

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking a Medical Assistant for UT Health RGV Surgical Specialty-Harlingen. The role supports clinical activities at UT Health Surgical Specialty or ENT sites and provides patient registration, vitals, and documentation in the EHR.

Requires a High School diploma or GED, completion of a Medical Assistant program, and current MA certification. Related ambulatory/primary care experience is preferred; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.
• Related ambulatory/primary care clinic experience.

Responsibilities

• Intake patients in clinic: obtain vitals, med history, chief complaint, meds, allergies; document in EHR.
• Notify inter-professional team with findings; prep charts; provide test results to physician; triage messages.
• Answer phones; assist with appointments, messaging, refills; schedule as per policy.
• Register new patients; verify and update existing patient information in the practice management system.
• Perform basic diagnostic tasks, collect specimens, draw blood, maintain exam rooms.
• Provide patient instructions per unit guidelines and as delegated by providers.
