Job summary

Safe Place in Waukegan, IL is seeking a compassionate Bilingual Legal Services Case Manager to support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. You will conduct intake, assess needs, develop safety plans, and coordinate with courts, prosecutors, and legal aid to help clients navigate orders of protection and court proceedings.

Ideal candidates speak English and Spanish, have a related degree or relevant experience, and are committed to trauma-informed, survivor-centered services.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
• Experience with trauma-informed, survivor-centered services is preferred.
• Experience with court processes and legal documentation is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intake, eligibility determinations, and needs assessments.
• Develop safety and service plans and connect clients with resources.
• Assist clients with preparing and filing Orders of Protection and court documents.
• Accompany clients during court proceedings and explain procedures.
• Advocate for clients and coordinate with courts, legal aid, and law enforcement.
• Provide crisis intervention, case management, and ongoing survivor-centered support.
• Maintain accurate electronic records and reporting.
• Educate staff and partners about domestic violence needs.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Courthouse Services, the Bilingual Legal Services Case Manager, serves as a liaison between clients and the courts, State’s Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, legal aid, and other service providers while maintaining accurate client records and required state reporting. They will be responsible for conducting a needs assessment, developing a plan for orders of protection, and servicing as a liaison between the client and the legal system

Responsibilities:

• Conduct client intake, eligibility determination, needs assessments, and required documentation using a variety of different systems.
• Develop individualized safety and service plans and connect clients with appropriate agency and community resources.
• Assist clients with preparing and filing Orders of Protection and other court documents.
• Accompany and support clients during court proceedings and explain court procedures, legal terminology, and available resources.
• Advocate for clients and coordinate with courts, law enforcement, State’s Attorney’s Office, legal aid, and other legal-system partners.
• Provide crisis intervention, case management, referrals, and ongoing survivor-centered support.
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic records, data entry, and statistical reporting.
• Educate staff, interns, volunteers, law enforcement, court personnel, and the community about domestic violence and survivor needs.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and agency activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, social work, counseling, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
• A high school diploma/GED with 3-5 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
