St. Clair County School System is seeking a Spanish Bilingual Instructional Aide to support EL/ESL students and assist the EL teacher in the classroom with translation and academic aid.

The role requires strong communication skills, reliability and a willingness to participate in staff training, with responsibilities including translation, family literacy outreach, and assisting with instructional displays and student support within schools served by the district.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.

  • Eligible under Alabama Child Protection Act requirements and possess/maintain a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist EL teacher with academic support activities in the classroom.
  • Provide translation between school and families of EL students.
  • Support ESL parent workshops and family literacy training when requested.
  • Prepare instructional aids, bulletin boards and learning displays as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and report concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify problems and improvements in responsibilities.

TITLE: Spanish Bilingual Instructional Aide

JOB GOALS: To increase the effectiveness of the EL/ESL/ELL teacher in the classroom and provide academic assistance to EL students.

To assist with translation of information provided by parents, guardians, schools, teachers, administrators and others

To assist in providing supplemental support to schools with ESL students and their families

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent, Associate’s (2-year) degree or higher preferred; any other appropriate degree/certification/license.
  2. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and
  3. Experience working with migrant and/or limited English proficient/ESL students and families, preferred.
  4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  5. Possess and maintain a valid driver's
  6. Ability and willingness to participate in staff training
  7. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including students, parents and others.
  8. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team
  9. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial
  10. Physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity and mobility to perform job

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and
  2. Works under the direction of a certificated employee at all
  3. Attends and participates in project-related training sessions and
  4. Assists in providing academic support to EL
  5. Assists, when authorized by supervising EL teacher, with communications between school and parents of EL students
  6. Assists with conducting ESL parent workshop and family literacy training
  1. Assists with the preparation of instructional aides, bulletin boards, and other learning displays as assigned by the supervising EL teacher.
  2. Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all
  3. Schedules and conducts home visits with the ESL Liaison to meet with parents of ESL students to discuss school issues and to offer family literacy training.
  4. Provides translation services for teacher conferences and parent meetings, when requested, as authorized by the supervising EL teacher.
  5. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace
  6. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  7. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  8. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  9. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  10. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  11. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team
  12. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representative groups as
  13. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  14. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and
  15. Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Federal Programs

SALARY: Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As established by the board and applicable state law.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
