Job summary

Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo is seeking a Health & Nutrition Specialist to implement and monitor health, safety, and nutrition services for Head Start and related programs. The role collaborates with families, staff, and community agencies to promote health outcomes and self-sufficiency.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, have supervisory or training experience, and possess pediatric CPR/first aid certifications.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in two or more languages, including one that supports program/community needs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Science, Health Administration, Biology, or Nutrition.
• Must provide pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR certificates within 30 days of hire; renewals required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and nutrition content areas comply with Head Start, licensing, and USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program standards.
• Monitor health status records from birth to five years and keep EPSDT schedule current.
• Enter data into the ChildPlus database; perform QA, generate reports, and support staff with data management.
• Conduct site visits to child care centers and family child care homes to ensure policy compliance.
• Collaborate with state and county agencies and health service providers to secure services for families.
• Provide health and nutrition education to children, caregivers, staff, and contracted partners.
• Assist with health and safety policy development and training for staff.
