We are looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Health Care Assistant to join our Mitchell Street location. The role includes front desk duties, clinical support, patient education, and administrative tasks.

Compensation
Base pay starts at $20.15 per hour. Additional $1.50 per hour for bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
Purpose of Position
Assist patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care by interviewing, screening, educating, and preparing them for their appointment. Provide medical and administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operation, including front desk responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform front office duties, including greeting and registering patients, answering phones, making appointments, verifying third‑party insurance, enrolling patients in third-party payor sources, and collecting patient fees.
- Interview, educate, and document patient history in the EHR, obtaining necessary signatures on consent forms.
- Assist clinical staff during exams and procedures, providing patient support.
- Prepare and clean exam and procedure rooms and medical equipment according to agency standards.
- Manage medical supply inventory and ensure rooms are equipped with necessary supplies.
- Perform and document laboratory tests and results, including urine pregnancy testing, hemoglobin, HIV testing, point‑of‑care urinalysis, and Rh testing; alert licensed staff to abnormal results.
- Perform vital signs, intramuscular injections, phlebotomy, IV placement, and pelvic ultrasound under direct supervision of licensed staff.
- Stay current on sexual and reproductive health care, community resources, agency protocols, referral procedures, and Planned Parenthood services and programs.
- Dispense contraception and medication following clinician orders and frequency tables; administer ordered medications and vaccines.
- Perform quality assurance activities and follow laboratory requirements as defined by Planned Parenthood Federation of America and PPWI Medical Standards and Guidelines.
- Comply with all safety and emergency policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Handling sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills required for some positions.
- CPR certification (certifiable).
Education & Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Certification from an accredited medical‑assistant technical program preferred.
- Experience in reproductive health, family planning, obstetrics, gynecology, or related medical/surgical experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Job requires hearing, talking, handling and grasping regularly; may require lifting up to 30 pounds; close vision reading; ability to operate computer, telephone, fax, copy machine, calculator, and medical equipment.
Working Conditions
Position performed in a medical office environment with frequent interruptions and moderate noise. Requires working with blood or blood‑borne pathogens, OSHA training, protective equipment. Flexible hours, possibility of evening/weekend hours, travel within Wisconsin, and a valid driver’s license and auto insurance or transportation may be required.
