Job summary

Regular home visits, parent engagement and staff development are key duties. The position requires an associate or bachelor's degree in ECE/CDV, California teaching permit, health/safety training, and experience in early childhood classrooms;

Qualifications

  • The following education and/or experience criteria are required to qualify for the designated level.
  • Must hold a California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher level.
  • Minimum 15 hours of Child Health and Safety training; CPR/First Aid certification or completion within 3 months of hire.
  • Minimum two years of early childhood classroom experience; two years of staff supervision preferred.
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education/Child Development; HS Performance Standards; CSPP requirements; CLASS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement Head Start curriculum for the classroom and for parent education.
  • Supervise assigned staff; train and evaluate associate teachers and aides.
  • Maintain records, ensure compliance with Head Start standards and CSPP terms.
  • Post weekly lesson plans and conduct home visits and conferences with families.
  • Oversee classroom operations, health and safety, and supplies.
  • Mobilize and supervise parent volunteers in the classroom.
  • Conduct developmental screenings and progress monitoring.
  • Coordinate with EDMH Manager and LEA for special education needs and transitions.
  • Communicate with parents about center activities and development.

Education

Level I: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field
Level II: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field
Core ECE/CDV units: 12 core units and 3 units supervised field experience
CA Child Development Teacher Permit or higher
Child Health and Safety training (15 hours)
Infant and Child CPR/First Aid certification
2+ years early childhood classroom experience
2+ years staff supervision experience (preferred)
