Job summary

Legacy Community Health in Houston is seeking a bilingual Eligibility Specialist to guide applicants through third-party reimbursement. You will help admit new patients, ensure accurate insurance eligibility, and provide empathetic support.

The role requires bilingual English/Spanish, medical billing knowledge, and the ability to manage documentation and data entry. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with potential training travel.

Qualifications

• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and able to assist diverse applicants.
• Strong communication and empathy in guiding applicants through eligibility.
• Ability to understand medical billing terminology and basic coding concepts.

Responsibilities

• Perform eligibility assessments for clients in line with program guidelines.
• Verify there are no other payer sources such as Medicaid or Medicare.
• Register clients into CPCDMS and complete required paperwork.
• Enter eligible client data into the electronic system accurately.
• Maintain organized eligibility files for audits and reviews.
• Schedule and confirm initial service appointments post-eligibility.
• Provide clients with required eligibility documentation.
• Collaborate with team and participate in safety trainings.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct eligibility assessments for clients, adhering to specific program guidelines.
• Verify that clients do not have other payer sources, such as Medicaid, Medicare, or third-party insurance.
• Register clients into the CPCDMS and complete all necessary paperwork.
• Perform data entry of eligible clients into our electronic system.
• Maintain up-to-date and orderly eligibility files for seamless access and review.
• Conduct renewal eligibility assessments as required by each program.
• Confirm eligibility appointments and set initial service appointments once eligibility is determined.
• Provide clients with a list of required eligibility documentation.
• Participate actively in the Performance Improvement Program.
• Promote effective working relations and collaborate as part of a dedicated team.
• Attend all required safety training programs and adhere to safety protocols.
• Ensure a safe environment by following proper procedures and reporting concerns.
• Travel to other sites for training and coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, some medical knowledge.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of medical billing experience preferred.
• Some training or background in ICD-A / CPT codes preferred.
• Ability to understand and practice bookkeeping and accounting terminology required.
• Ability to operate computers and other office machines required.
• Must be able to take responsibility and work under pressure.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices preferred.
